About Joy Tutoring
Joy Tutoring is an Albany-based tutoring company serving the East Bay and broader Bay Area, providing in-person tutoring for any subject. We offer tutoring for all levels of students, from elementary through graduate school.

We believe with the right approach and attitude, learning can be fun for anyone! Our team of passionate learners aims to instill a love for learning in all of our students. Through this, we foster confidence, happiness, and growth.
Our Story
Joyce Kessler and her son, Benji, began tutoring in Albany in 2007, when Benji was a sophomore at Albany High School. From the beginning, their philosophy was that learning should be fun! Joyce's tutoring journey began in the 1980s, when she was a student at Lowell High School in San Francisco. Throughout her life, she fostered a love of learning in both Benji and his sister, inspiring Benji to follow in her footsteps and become a tutor.

In 2019, Joyce tragically passed away. To honor her memory and carry on her legacy, Benji founded Joy Tutoring in 2020. The name is both a reflection of Joyce's own name and a celebration of the seemingly infinite amounts of love, enthusiasm, fun, and joy she brought to teaching, learning, and life itself.

Today, Benji and a team of dedicated, highly qualified tutors work together to help students strengthen their skills while discovering the true joy of learning. At Joy Tutoring, we are passionate about education and believe that, through building confidence and happiness, tutoring can do far more than improve a grade or test score.​​
